I first envisioned the Emerald Isle Talker while aboard the F/V Viekoda Bay in the summer of 1997. We were on our way back from "The Bay" and I was sitting with my crewmate Kyle trying to explain to him exactly what a talker is. [At the time, I ran DarkSide of the Force--a Star Wars-based talker]. As I was sitting at the galley table, I started to think about all of the things that make my home town, Kodiak, unique. Many, many places came to mind. Too many to fit into a talker. I went to my stateroom, got my notebook, and started writing down all the parts of Kodiak that would make good talker rooms. When I was done, I had 27 rooms, with a full description for each. Then I thought, what name could I use that people would know and remember? Easy. "The Emerald Isle"
